Des Moines Police Mounted Patrol The DMPD Mounted Police Unit (MPU) is a volunteer unit of Officers who use their own horses as well as trucks and trailers to attend events in Des Moines and the surrounding communities. Officer provide all the necessities for horse care. A large portion of their equipment and uniforms are purchased with donated funds and grant money. Their practive facility is owned by a member who provides the facility at no charge.These dedicated Officers, working in concert with their regularly assigned duties, serve in “Special Assignment” capacity at events they attend. They know a horse and rider offer a unique asset other than the traditional squad car.

We are a unique rescue organization in that we exist mainly to bridge the gap between traditional animal shelters and no-kill rescues in 2 different ways: 1) By providing free transportation for dogs and cats from traditional shelters to no-kill rescues all over the Midwest and Canada. We also provide overnight rest stops for our furry travelers and temporary housing for those whose time has run out at the shelters, but have to wait for a foster spot to open up in one of the rescues; 2) By pulling as many dogs out of traditional shelters that are on death row and placing them in foster homes and forever homes thru our organization.Contact AHeinz 57 here>
